| Le Thi Cong Nhan at her home |
A Christian lawyer, detained yesterday for four hours shortly after her release from three years in prison, has been freed, Church sources say.
Le Thi Cong Nhan, 30, said she believed the authorities wanted to prevent her from giving an interview with a foreign journalist yesterday afternoon.
Cong Nhan was released from prison on March 6 but remained under house arrest.
Four security officials detained her for allegedly breaching terms of that house arrest after she and her sister bought clothes at a shop one kilometer away from their home, she told local Church people.
The woman explained that since she was released from prison in Thanh Hoa province, she had traveled beyond her territory without any problems from security officials.
The terms of her house detention forbid her from traveling out of her home ward.
The Ha Noi resident was arrested on March 6, 2007, and accused of propaganda against the communist government. She was sentenced to three years in prison and another three years of house arrest at a court on Nov. 27, 2007.
Her colleague, lawyer Nguyen Van Dai, is serving a four-year prison sentence and three years of house arrest.
On March 7, a group of Catholics in the capital unexpectedly visited and gave Cong Nhan a bouquet of roses as a gift at her home to celebrate International Women’s Day, March 8.
She told them she trusts in God as her father, teacher and friend, who supported her in overcoming challenges and difficulties during her three years in prison.
